Product Troubleshooting

Possible Troubleshooting

To ensure continued operation of your aftermarket printer cartridges, please follow these step-by-step instructions to Disable Automatic Firmware Updates on your printer.

1. On the printers LCD screen, locate the "settings" icon on the main screen and press to select.

2. Scroll down and and select "Firmware Update"

3. If the "Notifications" option indicates "ON" follow the next steps to disable:

4. Select the "Notification" Option

5. The "Notifications" are now turned off.

6.  If the "Notifications" Options is already "OFF" no action is required.

*** Not all firmware updates disable cartridges, and some may contain important security updates. We suggest reviewing firmware release notes and periodically checking for critical security updates from your printer manufacturer so you can make an informed decision whether to install a particular firmware revision.***

The cartridge and printer used in this video may not look identical to yours, but the same procedures used in this video may be used for the cartridge you have chosen to troubleshoot.

If you receive an error message stating that the “alignment failed” or that the ”alignment could not be completed”, this may indicate that the printer is not properly recognizing the cartridge.

Remove the cartridge from your printer and locate the chip. Ensure that the chip is in place; and if so, you will want to clean it from any obstruction or debris as this may be preventing the alignment from completing.

Using a lint free cloth (such as a coffee filter), gently wipe the chip to remove any obstruction or debris.

Reinstall your cartridge into the printer (making sure it clicks into place), and attempt the alignment process again.

If the error continues, it may be necessary to perform a cleaning cycle to improve the quality of the print and allow the alignment process to be completed. Every printer is different so please consult your printer’s user manual for instructions on performing a cleaning cycle on your printer.

If you are not able to perform a cleaning cycle or if the alignment fails even after performing a cleaning cycle, please ensure that the scanner glass is clean and free from fingerprints or debris (this applies to certain models only).

If these steps do not allow the printer to align the cartridge(s), you will need to return the cartridge(s) to the place of purchase.

The cartridge and printer used in this video may not look identical to yours, but the same procedures used in this video may be used for the cartridge you have chosen to troubleshoot.

If you encounter a blinking light or an error stating that a cartridge is missing or damaged, please attempt the following procedures as possible solutions to correct the problem.

Please note: if you have just installed your cartridge and are receiving this message, please follow the steps below.

However, if you have been printing for awhile, it is very likely that your cartridge is out of ink and will need to be replaced.

Begin by removing the cartridge that is causing the error from its cradle.

Once the cartridge is removed, confirm that there is a chip intact and in the correct location.

If the chip is missing, you should return the cartridge to its place of purchase.

If the chip is in place, you may need to clean it from any type of obstruction or debris as this may be the cause of the error.

  • To clean the chip you may use a pencil eraser.
  • Gently brush the chip with the eraser to remove any potential obstruction or debris.
  • Or, you may use any type of lint free cloth such as a coffee filter.
  • Gently wipe the chip with the cloth, again removing any type of obstruction or debris.
  • Once this is complete, replace the cartridge in the cradle, close the lid and then follow any on screen prompts that may appear.

If the problem persists after returning the cartridge to its cradle, there may be some dried ink obstructing the window at the bottom of the cartridge.

Turn your printer off, disconnect the power supply and let the cartridges sit in your printer for 1 hour.

After 1 hour has passed, turn the printer on, remove and reinstall the trouble cartridge(s) and try your print again.

If you have attempted these procedures and encounter the same error, there is most likely an electrical problem with the cartridge, and you should return the cartridge to the place of purchase.
The cartridge and printer used in this video may not look identical to yours, but the same procedures used in this video may be used for the cartridge you have chosen to troubleshoot.

If you have just installed a cartridge and notice that the ink gauge displays low or no ink level, begin by removing the cartridge that is causing the error from its cradle.

Once the cartridge is removed, confirm that there is a chip intact and in the correct location.

If the chip is missing, you should return the cartridge to its place of purchase.

If the chip is in place, you may need to clean it from any type of obstruction or debris as this may be the cause of the error.

To clean the chip you may use a pencil eraser. Gently brush the chip with the eraser to remove any potential obstruction or debris.

Or, you may use any type of lint free cloth such as a coffee filter. Gently wipe the chip with the cloth, again removing any type of obstruction or debris.

Once this is complete, replace the cartridge in the cradle, close the lid and then follow any on screen prompts that may appear.

If your new replacement cartridge still does not show a correct ink level, there is likely a problem with the chip; and you should contact the place of purchase.

If your cartridge has been installed and you have been printing fine for awhile, your cartridge is running low on ink and should be replaced soon. Please visit the page entitled "Low (or empty) ink level" for more information

If you encounter an error message stating that "you have not installed genuine Epson ink cartridges", you will need to continue through this error message to allow your printer to print your document.

Simply follow the on-screen instructions to continue through this error message (if applicable), and select "continue".

If prompted to continue using this ink, be sure to choose "yes". Selecting "no" will not allow your printer to use these cartridges.

The cartridge and printer used in this video may not look identical to yours, but the same procedures used in this video may be used for the cartridge you have chosen to troubleshoot.

The cartridge and printer used in this video may not look identical to yours, but the same procedures used in this video may be used for the cartridge you have chosen to troubleshoot.

If you have printed a document and are unsatisfied with the print quality, please remove the cartridge from your printer. You can access the cartridge by following the same procedure you would to change your inkjet cartridge. This is usually accomplished by pressing a series of buttons. Please consult your printer’s user manual for instructions for your printer, if necessary.

Once the cartridge is out of your printer, you will need to ensure that you have removed the pull tab that covers the vent at the top left corner of the cartridge. You will also need to ensure that the silver seal on the bottom of the cartridge has been punctured by the printer.

If you have already removed the pull tab and the seal has been pierced, please reinstall your cartridge. You may need to perform a cleaning cycle to improve the quality of your print.

This video will show you an example of how to perform a cleaning cycle through your printer's LCD screen.

If your printer does not have an LCD screen, please select the troubleshooting for "Performing a Cleaning Cycle from your Computer" for further assistance. You may also consult your printer's user manual or the manufacturer's website for instructions on how to perform a cleaning cycle on your printer.

  • Using the arrow keys, scroll to setup and press OK
  • Scroll to Maintenance and press OK
  • Next scroll to Head Cleaning and press OK
  • Press Start to begin the cleaning.
  • The cleaning cycle will take a few minutes to complete.
  • Once the cleaning cycle is complete, select Finish.

If the print is still unsatisfactory, you may perform another cleaning cycle. Please be aware that cleaning your printhead does consume ink; and therefore, should only be completed when necessary.

If the print quality is unsatisfactory after performing the cleaning cycles, let the cartridges sit in your printer for 1 hour. After 1 hour has passed, try your print again. You may find it helpful to remove the cartridge from the printer and reinstall at this point, but please confirm that the print is still poor after the cartridge has sat undisturbed for an hour before trying this last step.

If you have performed all these steps and the print quality is still unsatisfactory, you may need to replace your inkjet cartridge.

Always be sure to follow the Manufacturer's instructions to gently shake a replacement cartridge with the print port down 4-5 times while still in the sealed bag before installing into your printer as this may help to prevent print quality issues.
